Hi all..
We just returned from meeting Dr. Nick Saenz, our surgeon. Surgery (biopsy and hip aspiration) is scheduled for Wed at 10:10 am. It should be about 2 hours and we’ll be there overnight at a minimum.
Sam is doing great. Color is good. The oncologist said he seems to be fine with respect to fluids. We had more blood drawn and he was typed today and I will pass that information on as soon as I hear back. He’s sleeping now and slept 14 hours last night. That scares the crap out of me but the doctor’s just laughed and joked that they wish it were them sleeping that long.
They do the pathology in-house so we’ll know the confirmation I hope later that day. Surgery is big-time, I guess, since Sam will have stitches so this will be something we’ll share a laugh with him down the road.
A few things that I’m learning:
Things take a lot longer than I plan – I had planned on doubling back to work today but am just getting home from the doctor at 4pm. I keep looking for the badda-bing, badda-boom appointments where we’re in/out in 15 minutes.
I keep hoping a doctor or patient liaison will reach out to me and tell me all will be ok or that it’s a bad dream but I’m getting used to, I guess the best way to say it, is that it’s really out of their control (and Greg you mentioned that you begin to accept this as you move on).
I believe in my bones that Sam’s healthy already and just needs a helping hand to sweep away the bump in his tummy as the surgeon calls it. The doctors seem to be open to referrals so I like their professionalism. The surgeon had a great bedside manner with Sam and had him laughing which was awesome!
PS… I just got off the phone with Dr. Patrick Reynolds of Children’s/LA. AWESOME conversation and I will recap that tomorrow (Tuesday). Right now? I need a nap 🙂
