March 7, 2005 – Mom’s update

By Margot | March 7, 2005

We bounced back into the hospital last week with high fevers and a painful itchy rash in the nether regions. After five days of Sam itching like he was on fire and trying several different drugs and creams, the mystery rash seems to finally be getting better. Sam counts are creeping up slowly and we’re hoping that once his counts come back to normal, the rash will be history. We had a couple of tough days with his GCSF shots this week (Mommy put one in the wrong spot) but Sam’s been very brave about it all.
He’s been feeling much better in the past couple of days. We dance to our Shrek and Shrek II soundtrack CDs. We really get down to “Living La Vida Loca.” Sam’s got great rhythm. We shot the nurese and doctors with silly string (Thanks Nicole), played volleyball today with a blown-up surgical glove and made several masterpieces with the art therapist. Needless to say, his spirits are much better. Andy comes in to watch Scooby with us and ride the elevator daily.
We’re hoping to be out of the hopital by Thursday when we are due up in LA for a pre-op physical before stem cell collection. If we don’t make things will have to be rescheduled by a few days.
