Happy Cinco de Mayo!
Sam’s doing well. We’re on day 3 of the 4 day treatment and we should be discharged sometime Saturday (I don’t think they’ll discharge him late Friday night). The big news is no roommate so far which is HUGE since our room at the hospital resembles the urban sprawl of Los Angeles with books, games, toys, food, and clothes.
Entertainment is a key factor in hospital happiness. In our four months, we have sequentially gone through infatuations with Scooby Doo (all 2 billion episodes are etched in our minds), The Justice League, Power Rangers, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. As a side note, the Turtles are my favorites but I just don’t understand why Casey wears a hockey mask.
Now, we’re onto Star Wars! Sam & I watched the original from ’77 on Monday and he loved it. We skipped the dark “Empire Strikes Back” and went straight to “Return of the Jedi” which he also loved. Sam has a light saber that vibrates with “the force” and which glows in the dark. Naturally, we turn the lights down in the room at night and entertain the nurses – they love it.
All is well – keep praying for Sam and every other child with cancer. Thanks for everything – Neil
