We’re in the hospital since Sunday night at about 9pm. It’s a pretty routine visit – just a 101 fever which is an automatic admit when his white counts are low. We should get out of here tomorrow, Wednesday, which will be just in time for him to play with his Aunt Anne/Uncle Don who arrive from New Orleans. Anne/Don have 4 grandkids of similar age to Sam/Andy so they should be used to commotion on a grand scale.
Other than that, all’s well. I have been asked to create a link to Sam’s procedure schedule and I will try to get that done this week. Surgery sounds like it will be pushed back a few weeks until the first week of June – nothing alarming about that – has more to do with the availability and timing of the scans than anything else.
We did go to Celebration of Champions on Saturday. Celebration of Champions is a Children’s Hospital of San Diego event where they celebrate and honor the Champions, children who are currently undergoing cancer therapy, have finished cancer therapy, and sadly those who have become angels.
Sam and all of the Champions got a medal and he LOVES it. It’s going to a place of honor in his bedroom near his soccer trophy from last fall. There were 8 Padres there and we met Woody Williams but Sam was way more interested in playing with Andy and four of their friends who came to support him. The other boys were: Joe & Jake Monaco (also 4 & 2) and Mac & Tyler Simpson (also 4 & 2). When I can, I’ll post some pictures of the 6 kids wrestling on the grass. It’s pretty funny.
We then went to the baseball game Saturday night. Our friend Maureen came along – she’s always there to help watch the kids and has been an awesome friend. Ryan Klesko of the Padres bought 400 tickets for Champions and their families and Sam even went down to the field for a pre-game celebration. The Champions were lined up on the 1st and 3rd base lines and waved to the crowd and got a thunderous applause! He loved it and I’ll post some of those pictures when I figure out how to do that.
Thanks so much for reading this and the prayers & emails. It means the world to us.
