We bounced back into the hospital Wednesday night with a fever. Sammy is really feeling pretty well except for some stomach pain after he eats. When he gets ativan(an anti-nausea med) he feels much better. It’s pretty funny because ativan makes him a little drunk and he becomes extremely outgoing and goofy. He’s playing lots of gamecube and has made it to some of the highest levels of the Ninja Turtle game. I’ll just tell his kindergarten teacher that although we haven’t worked all that much on writing the alphabet, he’s developed wonderful hand/eye coordination ;-). I did actually get him to the hospital schoolroom on Friday to work on his letters.
Basically now we’re just waiting for his counts to come up so we can go home and we’re hoping to be home by the 4th of July. He’s been at zero (white cells) for the last couple of days and today they saw one little leukocyte. Go leukocyte, Go! We need to be over 500 to go home. He had a bone scan and an MIGB scan last week and we are waiting on the results. He’ll also have a CT brain and body scan, a bone marrow aspiration, an MRI of the brain, another renal scan and another audiology scan before we go up to The City of Hope for the stem cell transplant. That will all happen the week of the 11th before we go up. We should have a very good idea of where we are with the disease when all the results are back. I didn’t let Ayesha (the nurse who coordinates it all for us) schedule anything on his birthday. We’re going to dine with Shamu at SeaWorld instead of big party this year because he can’t catch anything before stem cell. I can’t believe he’ll be five!
Andy is doing well and has been coming in to the hospital to see Sammy daily. He likes to build and knock down block towers in the playroom.Grandma Joan left today and we hated to see her go. She was such a big help.
I’ll do another update when we get out.
