The biopsy went well today. Sammy was up eating a sandwich ten minutes after he woke up from anesthesia He has to go easy on his leg for a couple of days but he’s not in much pain. I gave him some Tylenol tonight but I think he wanted it mostly because he likes the taste of Tylenol.
Now we wait. Dr. Sprehe thought the pathology would be back by Thursday at the latest. Neil has an appointment on Thursday with Dr. Villablanca at Childrens’ LA and we’ve had a sample of the biopsy sent up there as well. We’ll most likely start something (probably a combination of Topetecan and Cytoxin) next Monday but obviously want to get the biopsy results and see what Dr. Villablanca has to say first.
We had a very busy weekend. The Monacos took us out on their boat on Saturday evening and the boys had a great time. Sammy loved it when the boat was going super fast. Joe let he and Little Joe drive the boat. Andrew kept trying to climb on everything and lean way over on the railing. I was sure I was going to have to fish him out of the bay but he managed to stay on the boat. Sunday was family fun day at the park complete with big slide jumpies and face painting. Sammy had his face painted as Mikey the ninja turtle. It was awesome. We’ll post some pictures soon. Andrew actually got close to the clowns without totally freaking out but he did try to kick one of them.
Sam’s friends continue to amaze me. Sammy can’t swim this summer because of his hickman (central line) and it really sucks because he loves to swim. The doctors are afraid he’ll get a line infection. There was a water jumpy at the park where the kids slid down the slide into the water (germ city). It was the kind Sammy has made me promise to get him when he gets his central line out. Anyway, Joey showed up in his swimming suit all ready to go and Sammy said, “Joe, I can’t go on the water jumpy.” My heart was breaking for Sam and Joe said, “That’s okay Sammy, I didn’t want to go on it anyway,” and they marched off together for the other big slide jumpy.
Sunday night Sammy played with Mimi and her friends the Colburn boys. They are older (11 and 13 I think?) Anyway he had a great time hanging with the older kids and didn’t want to come home. I had to drag him out of there at 9:30 at night.
More on Thursday when we get news. In the meantime, trying to stay very busy which hasn’t been hard.
