August 8, 2005 (Day +3)

By Margot | August 8, 2005

Sam, like all other kids going through stem cell transplants, is seeing is fair share of nausea, fevers, and general uncomfortableness. As parents, though it’s tough to be here, we are ecstatic that Sam has gotten this far and we’re thankful for every day with him on this planet! So, we’re ok with all of this – just trudging through this one day at a time and staying focused on the positive stuff.

What does Sam’s future hold? Well, he does love Lance and now that Lance has ridden off into the sunset, Sam thinks he has a shot at replacing him. There are so many similarities between Sam and Lance: Lance rode his bike to stay in shape while in chemo – Sam drives Mario Kart Nintendo to stay in shape; Lance loved apple fritters, Sam loves Fruit Gushers; Lance had a favorite nurse (LaTrice), Sam loves ALL of the San Diego nurses plus we think he has a crush on Julie who is a Child-Life Specialist at City of Hope (it’s very cute to see). Lance has a scar on his scalp; Sam has a scar on his stomach. Lance wears Yellow; Sam wears Red & Blue. See? Lance has had to fight doping allegations; Sam’s dad is accused of being a dope (one of Ronbo’s favorite words)! So, as you can see, Sam & Lance have a lot in common!

Thanks for everything – Neil, Margot, Sam, & Andy
