Sammy started radiation yesterday. The tomotherapy machine was pretty impressive, they programmed the CT scans in and we could see exactly where he was getting the radiation. The radiologist said that tomo turned out to be a fabulous solution for Sammy and he said they were very proud of themselves for the work they did on the mapping. Sammy stayed still through the whole thing and the radiologists gave him a hug afterwards and told him they can’t even get adults to stay so still. I know I keep bragging about it. I promise not to write every day he gets radiation about how he stayed still, but as I sit watching him on the monitor and will him not to move I’m so amazed that he doesn’t for fifteen minutes.

The radiation made him throw up a lot yesterday which I wasn’t expecting. I still have some ativan pills and those seemed to help.

He felt good enough to go out to dinner. We go out to dinner a lot when we are up here and after dinner we order the gooiest desserts we can find on the menu and then we rate them. If the dessert rates Sammy says, “Hey that was a great dinner let’s come back here.” This probably means that come Halloween, I’m going to look more like Thunder Woman than Wonder Woman.

We went to Lakeshore Learning yesterday and bought all kinds of painting supplies and then we came back to the hotel and had a painting party. We bought rollers with hand prints on them and stars and polka dots. Our hotel room is nicely decorated with paintings drying everywhere on the walls. Sammy’s new teacher also came by yesterday to meet us and get an idea of where Sammy is with letters, numbers, etc. I may have slightly exaggerated Sammy’s thirst for knowledge. She may have left with the impression that if Sammy could choose whatever in the world he’d like to do, he would choose to practice his letters and listen to stories.

Andy and Dad are home together and had a good time last night. Andy is so funny these days because if you say something like, “Andy, don’t throw that” he’ll say, “Calm down, Mama, calm down, it’s only a little book” He also tells us to “relax”, it just kills me.

The teacher is coming to teach today and then more radiation and then we’ll go back to San Diego for the weekend.
