NED. NED. NED.

Sam is officially “no evidence of disease”. He finished radiation at City of Hope today and then Margot met with the doctors to review all of the scans that Sam completed in the last week. Sam looks great, his immune system looks great. We are a very, very lucky family. It’s impossible to tell everyone how thankful we are – both Margot & I have been crying tears of joy all day. There were times since Janary 19th that we were wondering whether we would ever get here. We owe incredible thanks to everyone for the emails, the money, the dinners, the phone calls, the support we received from both of our jobs, and from our families. The biggest risk facing Sam now is the return of neuroblastoma. Statistically, we need to be 3 years post-diagnosis which is when the odds become stacked in his favor. That puts the next big date for Sam as 1/19/2008. Next up for Sam is preventative treatment – we learn next Thursday, 10/6, which arm of COG-ANBL0032 Sam is randomized on. Both arms are based on oral cis-retinoic acid with one arm adding antibodies. There is no data to support which arm is more effective at prevent relapse which is why the trial is randomized. Time to put the boys to bed. Last thing – Sam has a 5 o’clock shadow as his hair starts to grow back. It’s going to be great to watch. I’ve not taken pictures of Sam since prior to transplant (the last week of July) so we have some catching up to do. Andy is doing well – our goal is to use this break in treatment to potty-train him 🙂

Thanks for everything – Neil
