Happy New Year! We just got back from New Mexico yesterday. It was a long drive for the kids but they were very patient. The DVD player helped quite a bit.
We had a wonderful Christmas in New Mexico. The kids went horseback riding, swimming, climbed around Grandpa’s fire trucks (he’s the chief of the Pojoaque Volunteer Fire Dept.) and generally had a great time. The cousins all got along very well. Andy and Finn flew around in their Buzz Lightyear Wings saying in Andy’s case “To Infiniby and Beyond” and in Fin’s case “To Infinity and the Garden.” Sam and Marty and Analei had a great time together playing games and goofing around. Sammy’s older cousins were a great influence on him. He seemed to grow right before our eyes in the week he was there. It was wonderful for the kids to have so much space. The weather was nice and they were outside, especially Andy since he was feeling well, almost constantly. They both got to bring in eggs from the chicken house and even pet and held the chickens. Andy bonded with the dogs and we thought we might have to take Peanut home with us.
We started off our week a bit rocky as Sammy had caught the stomach bug that Andy had the week before we got there and was very weak from having lost weight. Also, he was just finishing up a really rough round of Accutane that seemed to hit him much harder than the first two rounds in terms of energy, mood swings, appetite, and joint pain exacerbated by the stomach bug in the last few days. He just had nothing in the tank the first few days we were there but he perked up after finishing Accutane and getting over the stomach thing and by the end was running around and playing baseball with his cousins.
We have scans at the City of Hope tomorrow through Friday. We forgot about the Rose Bowl and the fact that there would be no place to stay and so are staying with Cathy in Irvine. It’ll be more fun for Sammy to hang out with Ally and Andrew anyway. I’ll post after the scans.
Hope everyone has a wonderful healthy happy new year!
Margot
