We are getting ready to leave for Australia and the kids are very excited. We had dinner with our fantastic Make-a-Wish wish granter, Renee, last night and she presented us with our flight information, a list of fun things to do and the information on the house on the beach they are renting for us. It’s going to be so amazing and we are very grateful and humbled by how generous and wonderful Make-a-Wish has been to us. Renee had a whole bag of presents for Sammy (things to do on the plane). Make- a-Wish reserved a separate room for us last night at Sammy’s Woodfire Pizza for dinner and the kids ran around it like crazy people throughout most of the dinner. If it’s any prelude to our eighteen hour flight, we are in big trouble. 😉
I took Andy to a new preschool yesterday and he liked it (only day one so I won’t make any sweeping predictions) but he’ll start there when we get back. The teachers were very kind and the whole atmosphere is different from his other preschool so I’m hoping it goes well. I was in the office signing paperwork while he was out playing with the kids and he walked in with one of the teachers and said, “Mom, I was lookin’ for ya, I need to tell you somethin’. I said, “What do you need to tell me, Sweety?” Uh, uh, that you are a poopyhead.” It made a nice first impression. Sammy said, “I hope he likes this school. Otherwise, he’s not going to know a lot of things.”
Sammy is doing really well. He comes out of school with a big grin on his face every day and tells me how many goals he made in soccer at recess. His teacher said he’s improving in leaps and bounds. A couple of days when we were late and the class had already started it was like he was Normy from “Cheers”, we opened the door and the whole class yelled “Sam!” He actually, finally, loves his hearing aids. He wants to put them in right when he wakes up and take them off after books at night. Neil and I were talking about how happy he is these days. He just loves his little buddies at school and really loves karate. He always has a spring in his step and a smile on his face. He was bummed that he’s going to miss school for the Australia trip but I told him we can bring back something for his teacher and the kids and that made him happy. As I sat with him on the grass at school today eating pizza for pizza day and he crawled on my lap to eat (he’s not old enough to care about the whole cool thing yet, thank God) and the sun was shining down on us I just thought how thankful I am for this little boy and how lucky I am to be his mother. This morning he said his leg hurt and I got that sick terrified feeling, I wanted to scream and curse at the world and at cancer and I almost wrote a ranting horrible post but when I see him so happy and funny running around with the kids in his class, I remind myself to treasure each moment. I’m not so good at that but am making myself get better. His leg seems fine now so we’ll keep an eye on it. He said he fell on it during soccer yesterday so I hope that’s all it was this morning. Luckily, we have scans the week we get back so we won’t have to wait too long.
I promise to try and get the website in shape so I can put some pictures up of our trip. We’re actually thinking of changing the format to a blog – might make it easier for pics.
We’re back on the 7th of April and will post again then.
