Happy Memorial Day weekend and I’m sorry for the long silence. No news is good news! Hope you all like the new website – the facelift was much needed and we are extremely grateful to Mike Lin, Ngan Ngo, and Deborah Teagle at BAE for working so hard to fix it up for the extremely cheap price of a batch of chocolate chip cookies :-). Thanks a million! It looks so much better. I’m mucking around today trying to get a couple of photos on here with Macromedia Contribute so I’m probably going to screw up the formatting. Hopefully not.
We are officially back at Children’s San Diego and had our first blood and doctor’s check last week with Dr. Willert. Everything looked great and Dr. Willert thinks we should begin spacing out blood checks which of course makes us a little nervous. It was nice not to have to make the two hour drive up to City of Hope for the blood check though. We were in and out in a few hours vs. all day.

Sammy’s back on Accutane and doing pretty well except for being a bit weepy and moody when he’s tired. He’s only got one more week of it. He can swallow all three pills at once now which is pretty amazing – doesn’t even phase him. We are also giving him Vitamin C pills on weeks off and it doesn’t have any side effects. Our resident neuroblastoma expert (Neil) has been doing huge amounts of research with other parents on vitamin C treatments and has found some amazing studies and results.
The kids are doing great. They’ll have a packed summer. Sammy has soccer camps, splash camp and his birthday (which will be a big event this year) to look forward to. I just got the permit for the park and a big slide jumpy. Andy has summer school at his preschool which the teachers tell me is almost a camp in itself as it involves a lot of getting wet and having musicians and magicians and all sorts of fun things. We are booked solid with end of the year things coming up both for Andy’s preschool and Sam’s school. Both boys will also have karate this summer. In fact, tonight is Ninja Camp night and Sammy is so excited. Andy will probably stay for the 6-9pm portion of it and Sam will spend the night. They are doing some practicing for the upcoming tournament in Irvine on June 4th that we just registered Sam for. It will be his first tournament and he is thrilled. He’s officially a yellow belt now and is getting really good at a lot of the moves. Andy just started back into it again and is hilarious to watch.
I drove Sam and four of his little buddies to the zoo last week for the kindergarten field trip and they had a great time. Chasing four rambunctious boys around the zoo was quite an experience – I was wiped out by the end of the day but Sammy was really happy that I volunteered. He’s reading like a champ now and still loving school. He’s really catching up quickly if he’s not already completely caught up with his classmates. They are learning about non-fiction books and as I read to him last night from Creatures of the Air and Sea, I began to explain to him about the index and how you can look up things you want to learn about. He said, “Oh Mom, I know all about that, Mrs. Abuhl taught us about that a long time ago.”
We are going to stick around here for the summer for the most part awaiting the arrival of baby Charlie in August. Sammy likes to see the pictures of the ultrasound and I told him if he’s out of school for the next one, he can come with me and see Charlie wiggling around in my belly. The ultrasound lady said he’s very active so we’ll have another active boy to add to the family! Charlie is going to have his hands full with his big brother Andy. I asked Andy if he wanted to see the baby kicking a week or so ago and he put his hand on my belly and then snatched it away and socked me in the stomach. I said, “Andrew, don’t hit Charlie!” and he answered, “Well, he kicked me first!”
Please keep the beautiful Penelope London and Christi Thomas in your thoughts and prayers as they fight this awful beast.

I promise not to let so much time go by before the next update.
