It was looking grim early yesterday morning but Dr. Willert, our hero, discharged us yesterday for Halloween and the kids had a ball. We made it back from the hospital in time for me to take Andy to his preschool Halloween parade – what a hilarity! I didn’t bring Sammy to that because I wanted him to rest a little before going to his school carnival for a little bit and I figured the germ factor at preshcool was going to by mighty high. Andy didn’t want to stay after the parade so I brought him home and we all went the Kate Sessions carnival together with the boys all in costume. It was good for Sammy to see some of his buddies and to hang around with Joe. He even went on the jumpy slide (though Neil and I immediately washed his hands afterwards). He seems to be feeling great and his mouth is getting much better. He was able to eat a lot more yesterday and even got some pizza down at Deb’s house last night. Andy was terrorized by the Haunted House (I should have known better even though he said he wanted to go in) I carried him through it but it was still too scary for him. Sam said he wasn’t scared at all.
After the carnival we came home to rest a little and then went over to Deb’s house with the Monaco’s for pizza and trick-or-treating. I was in my Captain America suit and Neil was in his Wolverine costume. I promsie to post pics soon. Deb’s whole neighborhood went trick-or-treating together and it was really fun for the kids, it’s a nice quiet neighborhood and we had this big gang of kids trooping from house to house. I kept worrying that it was too much for Sammy but he was feeling great and having a ball. He wanted to keep going long after we stopped. He came home and counted all his candy (63 pieces). He is at school today. It’s only a half-day on Wednesday’s. I sent him with a little bottle of hand santizer in his pocket and he said he would use it after recess. The kids are all very happy to see him.
We have a blood check tomorrow. I expect with him feeling so well, we’ll see a jump in the counts and hopefully, the platelets are on the way back up. They were 30 yesterday. I went shopping yesterday for high calorie stuff after talking to the nutritionist before we were discharged. I felt like I was in bizarro world looking at the calories in each pudding and picking the 120 versus only 60. I was looking for powdered milk because if you add it to regular milk, oatmeal or mashed potatoes it boosts the calories and Sammy can’t taste it. I asked the Von’s lady, “Hey, all I see here is NONfat powdered milk, I need FULL fat powdered milk.” She looked at me like I was a little crazy- I’m not exactly Nicole Richie these days.
A little half and half in your oatmeal anyone?
