Ugh!

By Margot | January 10, 2009

I guess if you look on the bright side, there was no ambiguity.  We won’t spend the weekend wondering.  NB is having a field day in Sam’s bones.   There are several new spots.  Left leg has 4 spots total, two up near the hip area, one above the knee and one below, right leg has spot below the knee.  There looks to be a spot on the jaw and one on the top of his head.  High dose chemo is in our very near future.   We don’t know if there is any soft tissue disease but we go back tomorrow to rescan his abdomen.   Right now he is downstairs excited to watch his brother play his first basketball game and can’t wait for his first game tomorrow.  It was Charger spirit day at school and he is all decked out in his Chargers gear and very happy and energetic.  You’d never know his little legs are coursing with cancer cells.  Insert swear word here.  Don’t need to tell you what a shift in gears is going to happen soon.      I’m off to coach the Red Spitting Cobras and will be using my compartmentalizing skills to their fullest.

Sorry to write and run and be so blunt but didn’t want to leave everyone hanging.   Will update more this weekend.

Margot

I wasn’t going to look tonight because I was taking the night off from my worries. Somehow I was drawn in anyway. Listen. Last October and November, Erin’s doc was not optimistic at all. She told me, as a friend, not to teach this spring. That I would want time with Erin. Now she tells me “Wouldn’t worry about the IVIG, she’s been healthy. No boat rocking.” Erin’s off partying tonight. She had her first full week of school for the year this week. She’s signed up to do seven events in academic UIL and wants to take fencing lessons. Sam will fight back. It will be hard and discouraging, but he will be back on top and soon.

    Margot and Neil,
I just checked Sams site yesterday but found myself needing to check again this evening. Can I say I HATE THIS @$&*@! DISEASE!! You know that Sam is a fighter what you may not realize is that he has an amazing set of parents. Parents who inspire so many they have never met. You both fight so hard for your family everyday. You are all in my prayers and I will be thinking of your little warrior more often than I already do. Right after Nate had his last set of scans I was up in my room crying. He walked in looked at me and said “Mommy what’s wrong?” I said “Mommy is just a little sad.” He looked at me with those beautiful 5 year old eyes and said “Mommy that’s dumb I’m right here you have nothing to be sad about.” and then he giggled. Hug your little men and know that there are many storming heaven with prayers.

    With Hope,
    Abra

Rd and margo- count the blessings..his platelets are high, his liver is functioning, his weight is better…radio will probably be cancelled….he can take the surge and you will have more time to find more answers..your (w)holistic approach to his nutrition, his lifestyle, the strength of your family…

All of us out here stand in awe.

Thinking of you guys — we’re here if you need anything. You both epitomize the phrase, “only the paranoid survive” and so the hell you’re going through right now is the price you’re paying so that Sam will beat this *%$#&! disease.

#$%&. This just pisses me off. You guys will reel it in as usual, but it’s the point that you have to put the process back in action. We are always here for you as a sounding board for whatever you may need. I hang on to Sam’s good fortune in this battle knowing that he’s going to beat it.
Keep living life the max. Sam will make it through this storm.

Ugh. I’m a regular visitor to Sam’s site. My daughter Eva has stage 3 NB. You guys have such an amazing ability to move along when things get tough. It is amazing and inspirational. Sam’s tough. We’ll keep him in our prayers!

#^%@(*&^%$#@! Blankety-blank NB doesn’t know WHO it is messing with: TEAMSAM will totally kick it’s butt!
I’m sorry you are all heading back into chemo-drive at warp speed, but I believe that Sam will be the one to have the breakthrough. He is a fighter, has an amazing family and friends for support, the power of MagicWater and every NB reasher out there knows him by name: Sam is going to win this battle!
Bajillions of prayers surround you all as you go back into the battlefield en masse!
    Much love from Ohio!

Dearest Neil and Margot–God knows how much we all hate this disease and how much we ALL LOVE SAM. Praying and begging God ever so hard for something that WORKS and allows your wonderful boy to live life FULL SPEED ahead. I am so sorry for this terrible news dear friends…it hurts something fierce…and I wish so much for easy answers for Sam…tremendous love and admiration for all of you, always…

    Hey Marg & Neil,
SHIT. Well…Sam’s been in a hell of a lot worse shape than this before and what everyone says is absolutely correct: Sam is an AMAZING little boy and you and Neil are equally amazing as parents (well – almost equal, I reckon Sam’s got you by a bit). Back in the saddle. I love you Marg, which there was something I could do. I’ll call soon.
    Love, Paul
