Wow!

By Margot | April 4, 2010

It’s all we can say about today. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow.

The outpouring of support from the community to make Sam’s All-Star Party a special day has us overwhelmed. We have photos and video we will upload but we did want to quickly say ‘thanks’ – a HUGE ‘thanks’ to everyone who attended and to the parents who made this day such a special day for us.

We will write more tomorrow (and we did find a necklace, silver with a cross, if someone lost it so please spread the word) but Sam would have LOVED it – soccer for hours with a ton of laughing and loving boys and girls.

The Pacific Beach Community – You Rock!!!!

THANKS – Neil, Margot, Sam, Andy, and Charlie

    Dear Margot and Neil,
Thank YOU for the all-star event for everyone who knew and loved Sam. It has been a gift to know your family, and a gift to be at Sam’s party today and to listen to everyone’s testimony about Sam.

I was reading the book “The Elegance of the Hedgehog” when Sam passed. At the party today, I kept thinking about something one of the main characters says in that book. To paraphrase: when someone dies, there are a lot of “never’s” – I’ll never see that person again. I’ll never talk with that person about that again. Etc. But there are also some “always’s” I’ll always think of that person when I see camelias. I’ll always remember the way that person laughed. Etc. The key is “finding the always in the never.”

    Take care. In peace, Diane

    Neil, Margot, Andy & Charlie,

You dont know me very well but when I started working at BAE, Neil you were a force to be reckoned with. You were incredibly kind and immediately told me about your amazing family and about Sam. You pointed me in the direction of Sam’s website and I always kept myself in the loop wether you knew it or not. I was devestated when I got the news and even though I had never met Sam… he touched me in so many ways. I just became a first time mother and because of Sam, I think I treasure my baby and my family so much more. Sam has taught me so much. I brought my husband and baby to his all star party because I wanted to honor him and hear more amazing stories and meet wonderful people who were touched by him. It was a great party. I have some interesting moments though, I wanted to share. When I was on my way to Sams service.. now mind you I dont know ANY of your friends or family and I only know so much because of TeamSam… but I was on my way to the service and I got lost & I have a friend who lives in PB and I called to ask him how to get to the church. When I told him why I was going he said.. “Oh, are you going to Sam’s service?” I was like WHAT?? How could he know that?! Apprently lives near by and heard Sams story and gladly gave me directions. Then after Sams Party, I stopped by a friends house who lives near Kate Sessions. I havent seen them in years. I told them I went to a Memorial type party and they said “Oh, for the cute little red head Sam”? WHAT?! How do THESE people know Sam?!! Apparently their son’s go to Kate Sessions Elementary. Lastly, I have a friend who passed & his family got a bench in his memory at Kate Sessions park many years ago. His bench sits directly over Sams Plaque. I didn’t know how close to my heart Sam would become…Sam touched so many!
    Regards,
    Sasha
