By Margot | April 18, 2010

Here’s the link to Sam’s YouTube page.  It’s teamsamhutchison because teamsam wasn’t available.  Also, Uncle Matt who worked tirelessly on this video has DVD’s for those who would like one.  His email address is newsdr@aol.com We were trying to get the video up here but it was too big.  We’ll be adding the slideshow and some other Sam videos soon.  Thanks to everyone for making the All Star Party so wonderful.  More family info.  later this week.

Wow. Sam affected so many people; the depth and breadth of people who continue to celebrate Sam and his courage…

What most affected my view on life is Sam’s consistent and conscious effort to not let his failing health affect his outlook or his older brother status or his effort to get in the game.

One of the hardest parts for me was sitting with Neil and Sam at a youth basketball game this February-Sam unable to play or even walk and still he showed up and watched his brother play. I remember thinking that I would be more selfish, having a pity party for my condition, but Not Sam! Like his dad, Sam put everyone else first! Sam didnt wallow in his misery; he put on a game face and always got in the game.

In the face of such a private and personal loss Sam was the man; older and wiser than any of us-he was there for his brother Andy-I remember thinking that someday I hope to have his consciousness; to accept loss but put on a game face and support his brothers.

Maybe that is the lesson-get beyond the loss, get beyond what life throws at you and be a big part of something bigger…the big brother in his family.

Sam, I know that you are reading this up in heaven, I am humbled by your courage. Not one time did you focus on your loss in the game of life, you just dug down and kept swinging the bat.

The video was beautiful! Many tears for what should have been.

I think of you often and would like you to know that I am here for you. I want to give you space but if you ever want to let off steam or have someone with so you won’t be alone, please don’t hesitate to come over or call me.

Oh, dear. I didn’t think I had any more tears left in me, but this beautiful tribute to Sam’s life by those who knew and loved him best moved me so….and certainly to tears of joy, of sorrow, of admiration and sympathy for you all. I feel so blessed to have known Sam and to be part of the Maley-Hutchison family.
    Thanks so much, Mat

    Dearest Margot,

The video is amazing. How we all love love love Sam!!!! And we all love your whole beautiful family.

Not a minute goes by I don’t think of you guys and the pain of the tragic loss of SAM. Moving forward is impossibly hard. Yet that is what you do….

I want you to know how inspired I am by the book you lent me (yet to be returned–I need a dozen copies in my possession before I let go of it!!!)

And I also want you to know how you inspired me to clean out my closet. Paul was majorly SHOCKED. I have a HUGE box in the dining room (since our bedroom is so teeny tiny) that I continue to add to….good huh! I plan to finish in the near future.

    Thank you friend!

You still remain my idol for Super MOM status.

PS Lesa is reading Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass aloud to us all. I though you’d be proud.

    Love you!

beautiful and inspiring!!! As I watched this, I could feel the energy and enthusiasm everyone had at the park… children and adults alike! All proud of their love for Sam … all thankful for how he enriched their lives and will continue to do so forever!
Margot and Neil, a touching recap at the end… I think Sam had a nice big grin watching the two of you talk about him with your arms around each other 😉 Love to you both, Colleen
