We are home today. We went up the City of Hope for a blood check and Dr. visit yesterday and were supposed to start radiation today but the radiologist called last night at 7pm to say that they are postponing it until tomorrow. Sammy does qualify for the tomo and they have mapped his body so that they spare the right kidney and are working on a better map so that they can spare the left one from being radiated as well. Thus the delay. I’d prefer they map it as precisely as they can obviously.

Sammy’s counts were perfect yesterday, his platelets are up to 129 and his ANC is 5.9

Dr. Bolotin took him off his bactrim and acyclovere (sp?). He’s still on TPN but eating pretty well. The doctor wants to keep him on while he’s doing radiation because it may make him lose his appetite. We are driving up again tomorrow morning so counting Friday’s trip back, that’s three trips up to LA this week. I don’t even want to think about the gas we are not conserving. Andy was very happy to see us though and Sammy is glad to be back if only for a night.

Yesterday would have been Sam’s first day of kindergarten. I have a home teacher coming in three times a week and he’ll have a teacher for the deaf and hard of hearing come in a couple of times a week as well. The director of the program told me that the hearing loss will become very noticeable as he starts school because he’s going to be hearing something different from what’s on the page. She did say though that with the extra classes they can really ease the transition into school and make it much less of an issue. He and I are reading Charlotte’s Web together and he really likes it. He’s asking all kinds of great questions these days like “Why are snakes long?” and “Why can shadows go up walls?” He asked me a question I didn’t have the answer for and I said we could ask Daddy or Grandpa and is said “Why are Daddy and Grandpa smarter than you?” Nice. I have to majorly cut down on the video games now that the “school year” has started. The hotel in Arcadia doesn’t have a hook up for video games. Wahoo!

Radiation tomorrow. I’ll post on how that’s going.
