Yikes – another three weeks have gone by. Hope everyone had a great 4th! The boys did. We spent all day in the pool with Joe and Jake and then went over to Darcy and Mike’s for their 4th of July party. The kids had a great time. It’s kid paradise over there and there were plenty of kids to play with, bikes to ride, etc. We all walked over to Kate Sessions to see the fireworks over the bay about 8:30 – best view in the city as far as we’re concerned. The kids have been doing fine. Andy is in his little summer school camp this month on Tuesday, Wednesday’s and Thursdays and he likes it a lot. He’s making some little friends and learning a lot of new songs.. His favorite these days is “Take me Out to the Ball Game.” and he sings it at the top of his lungs. We went to a Padre game last week – our neighbor David gave us the tickets. We had killer seats right on the third baseline. Andy wasn’t much interested in the game, the highlights for him were when the characters came out and when he got to sing in the 7th inning stretch. Sammy, on the other hand, was riveted to the game and very concerned that we win, he has such a strong competitive streak.
Sammy had soccer camp a couple of weeks ago and loved it. He is really a soccer nut and got to score some goals for his team when they played the bigger kids. His counselor said he was an angel and was one of the only kids there that didn’t whine or cry the whole week. She also said she couldn’t believe his moves. – Don’t you just hate parents who brag and brag about their kids? He didn’t so much like splash camp (he didn’t know anyone and said it was a little scary) so we took him out of it after half of a day last week. He still has another soccer camp and baseball camp and I think he’s liked just hanging out at our pool and not be so overscheduled this past week (MOM!). He’s back to karate after a couple of weeks off and working towards his orange belt.
I brought him with me to my ultrasound last week and Charlie winked at him. He thought it was really cool and I think he is getting excited about having another little brother. I’ve been trying to get Andy used to the idea and though I’m sure it’s going to rock his world, he seems excited that he will get to help “take care of Charlie.” I have been in complete denial that the due date is fast approaching. I haven’t gotten any of the clothes out of the garage or the bassinet or any of the other paraphernalia I need to get organized – talk about the 3rd child syndrome.
We have scans this week and next week. Wednesday is the bone scan and the MRI and then next Tuesday and Wednesday are the MIBG, CT, and bone marrow aspiration. We are hopeful and terrified as usual. We won’t get the results for a couple of days afterwards as it takes longer in San Diego. Argh. We used to have a great tech, Juan, at City of Hope who would go over everything with me as the scan was happening but the techs in San Diego won’t say a word until the radiologist does a formal reading – so hopefully there won’t be any vague bright spots to keep us up at night.
As Sammy gets older it’s harder to get him to the hospital, he doesn’t like going (go figure), he crosses his little arms and says, “I’m not going.” The last couple of blood checks have taken all measures of bribery and cajoling. The scans start really early every day so I’m hoping he’ll be too tired to put up much of a fuss.
The big news is that his birthday is on Thursday the 13th and we are having a big party for him at the park on Sunday with a big slide jumpy and a soccer company that comes out and gets all the kids to play soccer games and drills. It’s somewhat over the top but I figured what the hell, he made it and he deserves it. He’s very excited about it of course. I can’t believe he’s going to be six! We are so proud of him in so many ways. I’ll post again on his actual birthday.
