Sam and Neil came back last night around 8:30 after a long boring day at the hospital. Sammy did discover a GameCube and Neil got him a new game for it so he was relatively happy about that. We will all go up with him next Wednesday and do some fun things in between blood draws. It’s every two hours so we’d have some time to muck around Hollywood, go to the wax museum etc. He has to miss his second day of school but at least he gets his first day. We are officially on Fenretinide and it feels good to be on something. Aside from the fact that he doesn’t like the taste of it much, it’s pretty easy therapy. Oh, how I hope it works. Dr. Villablanca felt a swollen lymph node in Sammy’s neck yesterday. I was sick to my stomach when Neil told me about it. I just try to push the terror back into the far corners of my mind and vow to have a great long weekend with all the boys. We are ready to go with Topo/Cyclo and Nifurtimox (if we can get it), if we need a round two. Neil said Sammy wheeled around in his heelies from Uncle Paul all day yesterday.
I took Andy to the zoo yesterday while Elizabeth watched Charlie so he and I could have a day by ourselves. He loved it and we saw most of his favorite animals. The snake house was big. The snakes were eating lunch (white rats ick) and Andrew had a great time being grossed out. Colleen had us over for dinner and Andy played with Jakey and Joe and was well entertained.
We find out Sammy’s teacher today at 4pm. They post it outside the school and run to their cars so they don’t have to hear the shrieking parents. Sammy is very excited to start school. We got him an X-Men backpack and lunchbox. He wants to be Wolverine for Halloween and wants Dad to be big Wolverine (we already got a costume catalog in the mail). Andy wants to be Captain America and he wants me to be big Captain America. We’re not sure about Charlie yet, the boys are wavering on that one.
My dad and brother Paul left for Truchas Peak today. They are climbing it for my Dad’s 70ieth birthday. Paul flew in from Australia and surprised my dad for the camping trip. He spend last week with us but I didn’t post about it so as not to ruin the surprise. The kids had a ball with their Uncle Paul and he got Sammy out there on some really big waves on the boogie board. It was so great to have him here, he is a huge support for all of us. Truchas is a beautiful spot, we used to backpack in and camp there growing up. I want to bring the boys there one day. Here’s hoping Paul and Dad are having a great trip.
